DJ MACMANE

Mac is a friend of mine from college who turned into a DJ in South Bend Indiana. He use to have a XBOX that he saved music on. I use to rip songs from wax and give them to him to upload. He was the only person I knew that really got down with Willie Hutch. We connected on old music. I sampled Willie Hutch as a tribute to him and those good memories.

OLD 2 NEW

This record has some added “seasoning” to an old sample from a few years back. My goal was to breathe some life into an old record and challenge myself to give it life for today. Turned out good if you ask me haha!

ILL'S ORGANS

My guy ILL BROWN is a producer from Chicago. I moved to Chicago after college and met him through a mutual friend. He always used heavy organs in his production. I actually had him show me where he got them from. We have been friends for years so here’s to him!

THANK YOU - DJ BATTLE CAT AND DJ QUIK

Both of these producers are HUGE influences for me. In my former life I was a west coast producer born in the 70’s and I went to high school with quik and battle cat. They have always been so funky to me. Their versatility and ability to play chords and instruments over their beats amazed me as up and coming producer and still does to this day. I had to show love!! BOTH

are very underrated in my opinion.

THANK YOU - J DILLA AND PETE ROCK

J Dilla was so unique. His drum patterns and swing to his production were one of one. He picked so many soulful and obscure samples. His creativity and brave production style was a huge influence on me and still is.

Pete Rock is amazing. I still can’t figure out how he layered the samples for When They Reminisce Over You. Soul Survivor was so dope!! Pete Rock ALWAYS had a track that played a snippet of another beat that came in and teased you at the end of his track. I had to do that on this joint!

SO HIGH

This is another record that I added some “seasoning “ too. Two of my best friends LOVE this beat. My guy DeCarlo actually recorded a song to this a few years back and my guy BOOG has always loved this joint. I added some horn arrangements and retro synths over the top of it on this version. It’s always been a favorite amongst my guys so I had to add the “new “version!
